Hayes

Bob Hayes Dr. Hayes, Professor of Plant Sciences, received his Ph.D from the University of Illinois.

He is located at the West Tennessee Research & Education Center, in Jackson. Dr. Hayes primary responsibility has been to development weed management systems for conservation tillage cropping systems that were effective, economical and environmentally sustainable. His efforts were integrated with a team of colleagues that have made Tennessee one of the leading states in the adoption of conservation tillage cropping systems.

Although not located on the main campus, he has served as major professor for 16 graduate students (7 Ph.D.) and served on the advisory committee of 17 others. He has published a book chapter, 32 refereed journal articles, 71 research reports, and 203 abstracts, and 13 popular articles. His clientele include producers, consultants, research and extension colleagues, policy makers, media personnel, regulatory agencies and the general public. Dr. Hayes is a recognized expert for weed management systems in conservation tillage cropping systems and his insights are sought by his diverse clientele.

Dr. Hayes served as Interim Superintendent of the West Tennessee Research & Education Center until October 2002, when he was named the sixth superintendent of the station.
